Guided tours especially for children in the Munich City Museum

The Munich City Museum presents the permanent exhibition "Typical Munich!", which undertakes the first attempt to put the history of Munich, but also the essence of the city and its inhabitants, in display cases, on pedestals and to hang on the wall. A particularly loyal audience have the events, that take place in the Music Collection. The Orff showcase also includes an instrument, that is regarded as the forerunner of today's xylophones and is today produced by our company STUDIO 49 Musikinstrumentenbau as part of the Orff Schulwerk for the whole world.

Carl Orff, composer of the world's most performed classical music piece Carmina Burana, who is inextricably linked to the history of our house, described how he got in 1928 from friends - according to linguistic usage - "Kaffirs-piano", which had brought a sailor from Cameroon , It was a kind of xylophone, made of a small rectangular wooden box marked "10 000 wooden pencils," with ten strings attached to its open side. The instrument was played with a mallet and had, according to Orff, a surprisingly good sound. This was a model instrument found for his own work.

Mine track and elephant drum

Perfect in any weather is the salt mine in Berchtesgaden, where you can spend an exciting day together as a family. Highlights for children are the ride on the mine train and the 40-meter-long wooden slides as well as the sparkling salt lake.

In the Munich zoo Hellabrunn even the little ones are in good hands. The miniature goats in the petting zoo are waiting for children to cuddle. And with the elephants, an unusual custom-made product from STUDIO 49 is used. The so-called "elephant drum" simulates the extremely good transmission of vibrations to the elephant's foot and thus makes children understand, why elephants can detect dangers already approaching very early.
